“Hello!”
It is a pleasure to raise chickens; once you get use to it. ๐ As a first-timer, my experience was challenging and rewarding at the same time. However, there is lots of knowledge shared by kind folks online. Many thanks to them all!
I’ve read stories of sad outcomes from chicks shipped in the mail. Yet, for my situation all the places that were still offering chicks had them shipped in anyway; and weren’t getting the breed(s) I researched and selected for my starter flock. In my research I found Cackle Hatchery. The reviews were very encouraging and better than other hatcheries that I had read. It took some time to finally click the button, but I’m ultimately glad I finally did. I received three Black Australorps and four Easter Eggers (one being a bonus!) all hatched on my birthday. They arrived quickly, healthy and active. As they grew and their personalities developed I picked names for them. The Black Australorps look nearly the same, just subtle differences, so I creatively named them Li’Noir (for “black”), Austrad, and Lorp. ๐
My Easter Eggers are Beauty ‘Miss Grey Feather’ (white splash pattern) lays a sandy pink egg, Lyte lays a shinny blue egg, Mahogany ‘Hawk’ lays a light sage egg, and Bronsing lays a rich aqua egg. And they’re all quite the characters!
Fresh eggs are more flavorful and rewarding!
